Introduction Hoorn
Hoorn is a vibrant harbour town on the Markermeer, rich in history and culture. In the 17th century, Hoorn grew into an important Dutch East India Company (VOC) city, something that is still visible today in the monumental buildings, warehouses and its atmospheric harbour. Nowadays, Hoorn is a lively city where history and modern comfort come together: charming shopping streets, lively terraces and a wide range of museums and attractions make Hoorn a versatile destination.


Sights in Hoorn
Anyone visiting Hoorn will quickly discover that the city is bursting with history and culture. These are the highlights you should not miss:
Westfries Museum
At the Westfries Museum you dive into the Golden Age of Hoorn and West Friesland. The museum is housed in a beautiful 17th-century building on the Roode Steen.
Museum of the 20th Century
The Museum of the 20th Century takes you on a nostalgic journey through the last century, with exhibitions that appeal to both young and old.
Oosterpoort & Hoofdtoren
The Oosterpoort is the only remaining city gate of Hoorn. The Hoofdtoren (1532) at the harbour offers beautiful views and breathes the atmosphere of the VOC era.
The Harbours of Hoorn
Stroll past the historic warehouses and quays. This is where the VOC ships once set sail – a place that still reflects the grandeur of the past.
Samcity & Speelhoorn
For children, Samcity is a must, with a trampoline park, laser tag and escape rooms. In addition, playground Speelhoorn is a great spot for outdoor fun.
Julianapark
The Julianapark is a green oasis on the Markermeer. Perfect for a walk, picnic or an afternoon of play with the kids.
Hoorn–Medemblik Heritage Railway
Step aboard the historic Steam Tram and travel in style through the West Frisian countryside towards Medemblik.

Restaurant HAVN
Located in the historic harbour area, HAVN serves a modern cuisine with Spanish, Scandinavian and Dutch influences, prepared with fresh, local ingredients.
Strandpaviljoen Reuring
Situated at the longest city beach in the Netherlands, Reuring is perfect for lunch, drinks or dinner with a view of the Markermeer. The menu also offers plenty of child-friendly options.

Accessibility
From Holiday Park De Groote Vliet you can reach the centre of Hoorn in about 25 minutes (approx. 22.5 km). By car, you can drive directly via the Westfrisiaweg (N307). There are plenty of parking options in and around the centre, both in car parks and on the street.
Public Transport & Heritage Railway
Hoorn is easily accessible by train and bus. From the station, you are just a few minutes’ walk from the historic centre. In addition, the historic Steam Tram departs from Hoorn towards Medemblik – a unique way to combine both cities.
Combining
Together with Medemblik and Enkhuizen, Hoorn forms the historic triangle around the IJsselmeer. From Hoorn you can reach both other towns within a short time – ideal for a day trip combining multiple destinations.
